Santa Barbara faced another oil spill disaster yesterday when the underground oil pipeline owned by Plains All American Pipeline rupture yesterday afternoon and spilled over 21,000 gallons of oil into the ocean. Although that number will mostly likely be revised.
El Refugio State Beach and El Capitan State Beach are closed. Miles of the Santa Barbara coast line has been damaged and severely impacted. Crews are now on the beaches trying to clean blackened rocks and sand as well as trying to contain and remove the oil from the ocean and affected wildlife.
The entire Santa Barbara coast is polluted and there is a toxic odor that now fills the air.
State and local authorities are now surveying the damage and investigating into what causes the oil spill.
